1. Rhyming Puzzle

Did you know that Phonemic Awareness is one of the most important pieces of learning how to read? The Science of Reading is becoming so well know right now and Phonological/Phonemic Awareness is heavily discussed as a big component of the reading process. Rhyming seems like something so simple/small but the truth is, if your students are having trouble rhyming it is a skill they they need to work on in order to become better readers. I always try to incorporate puzzles/multi-sensory games for concepts like this. I've used it in may ways, as centers, as "finished work" when I have a sub etc. The kids love it and it helps with such an important skill! I like this one because it comes with a visual, so if the student cannot read the words the visual can help!

2. Mad Dragon - An Anger Control Game

Social emotional learning is so important!! Let's face it thought, kids don't always pay attention even with direct instruction of concepts etc. That's why it's a good idea to sneak in some games! I bought this game for my Social Skills Group. It's kind of like the game Uno but has conversation topics that focus on anger/frustration and coping skills.

3. Book - Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

I first heard of this book when I was student teaching. The school used it as a school wide PBIS sort of thing. I just love the concept. It promotes kindness and making others feel good. It is such an important skill that students need to learn. It's one of my favorite books!
